TWO ON TWO 4-WAY CAMPS ARE A HIT : The first season of 2 on 2 camps was a big success and the second season is proving to be more of a hit. The second year of the two on two camps has led to some improvements. The biggest of which is the schedule change. The camps are now running as a three day event. This gives an opportunity to get more repetitions on random work which was lacking from the earlier camps. The amount of flying time is up from two hours per person to 2 hours 45 minutes. Campers are paired up with like experience partners and the camp director does his best to accommodate everyone's personal slot preference. Campers of all experience levels have enjoyed the opportunity to practice almost all of the blocks of the dive pool. Most have considered the camp to be informative and challenging. The schedule is up for the remainder of the season.
AIRSPEED ODYSSEY WINS TUNNEL COMPETITION: The Bodyflight Bedford competion was a money meet with a cash purse of 4000 GBP to the winning team. Twelve teams participated coming from all over the world. Airspeed averaged a score of 23.3 to win over the course of the 10 round competion. The second place team winning 2000 GBP was Spa Hayabusa from Belgium with an average of 20.6. Third place was a team from Sweden by the name of Team 42 winning 1000 GBP averaging 17.8. The last money winning team coming in at 4th place was Fast and Furious from Italy winning 500 GBP averaging 14.9. The clock began running the instant any member broke the plane of the door and the teams were given 35 seconds of working time. Spectators were able to watch both on large screen TVs located throughout the facility as well as crowding around the outside of the chamber. 4way has finally turned in to a spectator sport. The scoring system led to a very realistic meet average compared to what teams might see during a skydiving competition. Team members report the competition had a very meet like feel and enjoyed the structure of the event. With two new wind tunnels in the UK formation skydiving is most certainly alive and well. Airspeed also had the opportunity to visit the Airkix wind tunnel located in Milton Keynes, UK and thoroughly enjoyed their stay. The Airkix tunnel proved to be both warm with an outside air temperature of approximately 45 degress and powerful enough for both freeflying and 4way formation flying. There are several other attractions located in the same facility such as indoor snow skiing, rock climbing, and paint ball.
SKYDIVE ARIZONA GETS NEW TUNNEL: Skydive Arizona has completed its SkyVenture wind tunnel and is open to the public. Completition of the tunnel had seemed like a distant dream for a long, but the reality appears to be well worth the wait. With a flight chamber diameter of 14 feet it allows teams to do virtually every block. Freeflyers will also be able to enjoy the spacious flight chamber. The tunnel staff has had a lot of time to prepare for operations and have received extensive training from the International Bodyflight Association and are ready to go. Airspeed has scheduled a camp, August 26 - 27, at TunnelCamp's newest venue in Eloy, Arizona.
